Mardi Bra's and Boxers

By Della Booth

Take a journey to the Big Easy for something that’s not so easy: battling cancer.

Mardi Bras and Boxers will bring Bourbon Street “uptown” to the Pavilion at Cape Harbour on February 11, 2010, in an effort to raise awareness for the fight against cancer.

Artists will work “under [the] wire” to showcase uniquely crafted bras and boxers that will be auctioned off in this “uplifting” night of fun and masquerade. According to Mardi Bras and Boxers planning committee member ToniRae Hurley of Iberia Bank, “This isn’t just about breast cancer. We are displaying and auctioning artist-created bras as well as boxers to reflect the many complexities of the disease. All cancers touch men, women, and children alike.”

In addition to the auction of bra and boxer art, other items such as celebrity items and cruises, as well as items in support of local restaurants and businesses, will be auctioned off at Mardi Bras and Boxers in an effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Cape Coral.

“With live music, dancing, and performances, you’ll be transported to New Orleans and get a head start on Fat Tuesday,” says Mardi Bras and Boxers planning committee member Barbara Allshouse of Café Pignoli’s. “Another beautiful addition to our evening will be the luminary ceremony honoring and remembering those people we love who fight the battle with cancer.”

So, grab your “doubloons” and give some “support” in a night of fun and philanthropy. All proceeds are to benefit the American Cancer Society and the event is being sponsored by Fox 4, Iberia Bank, Café Pignoli, Realmark Development and Time Realty.
