Autum Season Grub Control - Lenny's Pest Control

Autumn Season

Autumn is the best time to inspect for grubs, although early spring can also bring on early infestations. At these times the grubs are near the soil surface feeding at the root zone. Use a spade to cut three sides of a strip one foot square and three inches deep.. After inspection, replace the strip of sod to insure roots can re-establish contact with the soil. Repeat this procedure in several other areas of the lawn to locate possible white grub infestations.

For whitegrub elimination, treat with Merit insecticides.  Two types of  Merit systemic products are available:   Merit Granules and  Merit Spray Concentrate.  Both work but most professionals prefer using the granular Merit Systemic Insecticide.  Water the insecticide well, in order to deliver the material deep enough to kill the grubs.
Lawn spraying and fertilization can be utilized to protect your home from invaders. Home lawns are commonly infested with insects, bugs, weeds, diseases and other pests which cause severe damage to turfgrass. These pests can be divided into two groups based on their location: SOIL INHABITANTS and THATCH INHABITANTS. Both groups severely damage lawns. A knowledge of pest biology and habits is helpful when implementing effective control programs. A word about Termites.. Lennys Pest Control

Drywood termites are dealt with by locating the kickout holes. From there one punctures the kickout-hole and injects the appropriate insecticide. After that the hole is resealed with caulk to ensure no escape for the termites.

Subterranean termites are largely avoided via education, detection and eliminating conditions conductive to termites, sometimes an infestation has already occurred. In this case there are available liquid termiticides which must be administered at the foundation of the structure of the building or home.

Before you decide on a treatment plan for termites, it is very important to determine the species you are dealing with. In the southern part of the United States, subterranean termites are the most common. Subterranean termites are the underground termite and travel in mud shelter tubes. They make up about 90% of the termite infestations in the United States. Subterranean termite species that are the most common are the Eastern subterranean termite, Arid Land subterranean termite and the western subterranean termite. Formosan termites are also a species of subterranean termite that are common in areas of Louisiana, Texas and you guessed it - Florida. Since you live more than 500 miles from the gulf coast, it is likely that your termites are subterranean.

Fire Ants - Lennys Pest Control

Fire Ants can be controlled by a two different methods.
Drench all existing mounds with Demon EC or Talstar concentrate. At least one gallon of finished solution is required for fire ant mounds, 1/2 gallon for smaller ones. A good rule of thumb is to use one gallon of solution per foot of diameter of mound. For example, a huge mound that is three feet wide (at its base) would require three gallons of finished solution. This ensures that you kill ants deep in the colony structure. Keep pets and children away from treated areas until dry.

Rodents by Lenny's Pest Control

Roof rats breed throughout the year, with two peaks of production: In February and March and again in May and June. The period of least activity is in July and August. The gestation period is approximately 21 days, and the number of young per litter averages almost seven.

Roof rats are largely commensals and live in close association with man. They seldom become established as feral animals as do the Norway rats; however, in Lavaca County they have been found throughout the county, in the towns, and on the farms. They inhabited grocery and drug stores, warehouses, feed stores, and poultry houses and were very common in cotton gins and associated grain warehouses. On the farms they lived in barns and corn cribs. They may live near the ground, but usually they frequent the attics, rafters, and crossbeams of the buildings. They make typical runways along pipes, beams or wires, up and down the studding, or along the horizontal ceiling joists, often leaving a dark-colored layer of grease and dirt to mark their travel-ways. Like the Norway rat, the roof rat is largely nocturnal and only where populations are relatively high does one see them frequently in the daytime. There is some indication that the larger and more aggressive Norway rat is supplanting the roof rat in many parts of the United States. In the southern United States, however, the roof rat is by far the more common of the two.

It’s Termite Time By Lenny's Pest Control

It’s winter in Southwest Florida and everyone knows it. Does this mean the pests are at rest? Of course not. Because the current rash of cold weather the termites are hard at work. Probably eating at the walls that are keeping you warm now.

This is the first visible evidence of termites and their swarm is commonly mistaken as "flying ants". Turning on your heat on a cold day can cause these termites to immediately start flying out of your walls. Fire ants, Argentine ants and other ant species, as well as American cockroaches, try to move indoors during this time as well, seeking warmth from the colder temperatures.

Termites construct these tubes for shelter as they travel between their underground colonies and the structure. To help determine if an infestation is active, the tubes may be broken open and checked for the presence of small, creamy-white more on termites here.

Lenny's Pest Control

Lenny's Pest Control Client Testimonial
www.lennyspestcontrol.com

My first experience with your company was as a Board member at a Cape Coral Condo.  We had become dissatisfied with our previous vendor.  You and your son could not have been more professional, cooperative and effective in handling the pest control needs of the grounds and the individual condo units. When I moved and bought a house the company that immediately came to mind for my personal home pest control needs was Lenny's Pest Control.  There were a variety of pests to deal with when I first moved in.  Lenny took care of the problem and I have yet to see one pest in the house or garage.  Since that time I have referred various friends to your company.  I would not do that if I were not absolutely and completely satisfied.
A happy client.
