How Employers Are Using Social Networking Tools to Identify, Screen and Hire Employees and How Individuals Can Use Social Media to Enhance Their Personal Reputations

Event Description

In today's hyper-competitive economic environment hiring and retaining talented employees is critical to maintaining an organization's competitive advantage in the marketplace. Many successful firms and organizations are now using social networking and social media tools to identify, screen and higher staff. Social networking tools have proven to be very cost effective in reaching out to prospective employees and engaging them with your organization. With so many Americans online, and active members of social networking platforms, these tools have become valuable resources to employers for screening job applicants.

Employers Use of Social Media to Hire

The Social Media Club of Southwest Florida is pleased to welcome Lori Burke, SPHR the Director of Human Resources from Neighborhood America as a guest speaker for our October event. Lori, a member of the Human Resource Management Association, utilizes different forms of social networking platforms at Neighborhood America to attract qualified talent to the organization and provide human resources updates to employees throughout the U.S. Lori's firm, Neighborhood America, develops and implements enterprise social media solutions for Fortune 1000 companies, government agencies and media entities geared towards solving well defined business needs and problems.

Lori has more than 20 years of professional experience in human resources management in both the public and private sectors. Lori oversees all human resource functions including recruitment and staffing, compensation and benefits administration, staff development, and employee relations.

How Job Seekers and Students Can Use the Internet to Build Their Personal Reputations

Lori's presentation will be followed by a presentation led by Matthew Chamberlin. Matthew is a social media marketer, experienced video producer, blogger and speaker at industry conferences, keynotes and corporate events. Matthew speaks regularly to students and parents about the intersection of online and offline media, activities and behavior. Matthew teaches individuals to take a long view of social media, how to become digitally savvy and use the Internet and social networking to build personal reputations and enhance long-term employability.

Matthew is the owner of the Clearcast Digital Media, a new media consultancy and production company. Clearcast helps companies navigate the new media/social media space to extend their brand or service offering. His book entitled "There Is No Delete Button on the Internet: A Guide for Kids and Parents about Social Networking and the Changing Culture of Online Communications" will be released in Spring 2010. You can view a short video clip about Matthew's presentation to parents and students by clicking here.
