Good evening and happy holidays!

The chorus concerts start this weekend - three locations and times for your convenience! Here are the details, so spread the word and see you there for some wonderful holiday cheer!

Nicholas

****************************************************

A Holiday Celebration in Song! The SWFL Gay and Lesbian Chorus will be joyfully starting off our holiday season with three wonderful concerts! Under the artistic direction of Kevin Halesworth, the chorus will be entertaining with new written choral pieces and some traditional ones we will all love!

The chorus will be helping spread the holiday cheer by donating $1.00 of each ticket sales to support local food banks for friends and families. In addition, the chorus is excited to accepting credit cards for concert tickets, raffle items and donations (except American Express cards).

Join the chorus in Fort Myers on Saturday, Dec. 5th at St. John the Apostle MCC Church at 3049 McGregor Blvd, for a dinner AND show! The dinner will begin at 6:00 PM and is a fundraiser for the church and the concert will begin at 7:30 PM. The cost of the dinner and show is $30.00, or you can come to only the concert, for $15.00.

The second concert will be performed in Fort Myers on Sunday, Dec. 6th, at 7:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 13411 Shire Lane. This will be a joyful holiday concert only for $15.00.

The chorus is excited to be returning to Naples for it's third concert of the season on Sunday, Dec. 13th, at 7:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church 6340 Napa Woods Way.

For more information please call 239-691-2532, visit the website at http://www.gaychorus.org/, or email the chorus at swflgaychorus@aol.com.

November 17, 2009

Time: 6:30pm - 9pm
Where:
Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport
9931 Interstate Commerce Drive
Fort Myers, FL 33913

What better way to kick off the holiday season than to celebrate with the Social Media Club of Southwest Florida? Sample delicious dishes from four outstanding Southwest Florida eateries that are using social media:

  • Bubba's Roadhouse, Cape Coral
  • Chef Murray Young at Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport at Town Center
  • Simply Cupcakes, Naples
  • Naples Smokehouse, Naples
Best of all, we all can lend a hand to make Southwest Florida children a little happier by donating an unwrapped toy to benefit Toys for Tots. Typically admission to our meeting is free, but we hope you will understand this month's "cover charge."

This meeting is possible thanks to the generosity of our sponsors:

We welcome D3 Services and CPR Tools to Southwest Florida. Those who attended the networking reception in October meeting at Blu Sushi may have had the opportunity to meet Andy Crawford.

How Employers Are Using Social Networking Tools to Identify, Screen and Hire Employees and How Individuals Can Use Social Media to Enhance Their Personal Reputations

Event Description

In today's hyper-competitive economic environment hiring and retaining talented employees is critical to maintaining an organization's competitive advantage in the marketplace. Many successful firms and organizations are now using social networking and social media tools to identify, screen and higher staff. Social networking tools have proven to be very cost effective in reaching out to prospective employees and engaging them with your organization. With so many Americans online, and active members of social networking platforms, these tools have become valuable resources to employers for screening job applicants.

Employers Use of Social Media to Hire

The Social Media Club of Southwest Florida is pleased to welcome Lori Burke, SPHR the Director of Human Resources from Neighborhood America as a guest speaker for our October event. Lori, a member of the Human Resource Management Association, utilizes different forms of social networking platforms at Neighborhood America to attract qualified talent to the organization and provide human resources updates to employees throughout the U.S. Lori's firm, Neighborhood America, develops and implements enterprise social media solutions for Fortune 1000 companies, government agencies and media entities geared towards solving well defined business needs and problems.

Lori has more than 20 years of professional experience in human resources management in both the public and private sectors. Lori oversees all human resource functions including recruitment and staffing, compensation and benefits administration, staff development, and employee relations.

How Job Seekers and Students Can Use the Internet to Build Their Personal Reputations

Lori's presentation will be followed by a presentation led by Matthew Chamberlin. Matthew is a social media marketer, experienced video producer, blogger and speaker at industry conferences, keynotes and corporate events. Matthew speaks regularly to students and parents about the intersection of online and offline media, activities and behavior. Matthew teaches individuals to take a long view of social media, how to become digitally savvy and use the Internet and social networking to build personal reputations and enhance long-term employability.

Matthew is the owner of the Clearcast Digital Media, a new media consultancy and production company. Clearcast helps companies navigate the new media/social media space to extend their brand or service offering. His book entitled "There Is No Delete Button on the Internet: A Guide for Kids and Parents about Social Networking and the Changing Culture of Online Communications" will be released in Spring 2010. You can view a short video clip about Matthew's presentation to parents and students by clicking here.
